Sia and her career ascension as a songwriter

After a while as a solo artist, Sia - the singer, songwriter, producer and director - stands out again for the songs written for movies and artists and for the cooperations with pop bands.

The singer, who writes 10 songs each week like she revealed in interview to The Guardian in 2016, released her last album in 2017. The australian has given priority to the projects and cooperations where she mostly writes, which allows her to avoid contact with media pressure. Discreet and wearing a wig that covers almost all of her face, Sia looks at the music as a way to face out personal problems.

This year has been brought the singer into the spotlight. Until now, she released her newest single, 'Original', for the “Dolittle” movie, and had have a special participation on the music 'On' from the south corean boys band BTS. Considered, by ones, as an avant-garde artist who wears an half-blond, half-black wig and, by others, as the pop stars’ favorite songwriter, Sia Furler is an astonish talented australian musician who has a tremendous hability to write singles.

Besides she had had a little sample about what the fame might be with the 'Breathe Me' single in 2004, which had only played on the unconventional radio stations, Sia only became worldwide known after the 'Chandelier' hit had been released years later, in 2014. Till then, the singer had already released five studio albums and had written singles for artists like Christina Aguilera. Nonetheless, Furler just became the most wanted songwriter after the 'Titanium' success alongside David Guetta, in 2011.

The singer had already written more than 100 singles for pop stars, however, her career ascension was not easy. Depending on her fragile personality and associated problems - bipolarity, alcoholism and drug abuse - Sia refused to promote herself in interviews and on station radios and television, she even appeared on Billboard cover with a plastic bag covering her head. On Twitter, she argued voice is the most relevant part of her job and, if she did not show her face, she would not have to face the “injustice of being a pop star”.

Sia had already produced successful singles for Beyonce ('Pretty Hurts'), Rihanna ('Diamonds'), Jennifer Lopez ('Expertease'), among other pop artists. However, pop is not her favorite song type because lyrics are too simple. Although that, Sia had adjusted herself to the american music industry and she already has seven solo studio albums. Two of them had really been acclaimed by the critics: “1000 Forms of Fear” had sold 2 million discs around the world, in 2014, and “This Is Acting”, which is mostly composed by singles written to another pop stars although they were not included on their albums, had been an huge success too, in 2016.

With a natural talented songwriter skill, the australian revealed to the Rolling Stone, in 2018, she had even written hit singles in 14 minutes (particularly, Rihanna’s hit number 1 'Diamonds'), and, according to herself, the formula is pretty simple: at first, it comes the melody and, then, we choose the lyrics that make sense to the artist.
